Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students with visual impairments by providing specialized instruction and support to help them thrive academically and personally.

As a TVI, you will work closely with students in various educational settings, including individual and group instruction, and collaborate with other professionals such as orientation and mobility specialists, special education teachers, and parents to ensure a comprehensive, inclusive approach to student development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instructional support to students with visual impairments, including teaching braille, adaptive technology, and daily living skills.
  • Assess students' needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with families, teachers, and school staff.
  • Create and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to each student's visual impairment and unique learning needs.
  • Support students in using assistive technology, tools, and resources to access the curriculum and participate fully in school activities.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff, parents, and caregivers on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to ensure success.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide services for students across the district in grades K-12

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Orientation and Mobility, or a related field.
  • Valid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of braille, adaptive technology, and specialized instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff, parents, and outside agencies.
  • Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to making a difference in the lives of students with visual impairments.
