Virtual School Social Worker

Location: Pennsylvania, United States (Remote)
Job Type: Fulltime, Current school Year - Work From Home 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Virtual School Social Worker to join our team in providing support and guidance to students enrolled in virtual learning programs across Pennsylvania. As a Virtual School Social Worker, you will play a crucial role in addressing the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students, fostering a positive and inclusive virtual learning environment, and collaborating with educators, parents, and community resources to ensure the overall well-being and academic success of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Counseling: Provide virtual individual counseling sessions to students to address various social, emotional, and behavioral concerns, including but not limited to stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, and family issues.
  • Group Counseling: Facilitate virtual group counseling sessions to address common issues affecting students, such as peer relationships, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to crises and emergencies involving students, including instances of abuse, self-harm, or suicidal ideation, by providing immediate virtual support and coordinating appropriate interventions and referrals.
  • Case Management: Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' needs and develop personalized intervention plans in collaboration with students, families, educators, and other stakeholders. Maintain accurate and confidential case records and documentation.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work closely with virtual school administrators, teachers, and other staff members to identify students who may benefit from social work services and provide consultation on strategies to support students' academic and socio-emotional development.
  • Family Engagement: Engage with parents and guardians to build positive relationships, provide support, and involve them in the development and implementation of intervention plans to address their child's needs.
  • Community Resource Referrals: Connect students and families with appropriate community resources and external support services, such as mental health agencies, counseling centers, healthcare providers, and social services, to ensure access to comprehensive support systems.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and needs of students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds or marginalized communities, by promoting equity, inclusivity, and social justice within the virtual school environment.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and legal regulations related to school social work, virtual learning, and child welfare through ongoing professional development activities and training opportunities.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification as a School Social Worker or eligibility for certification.
  • Previous experience working as a social worker in an educational setting, preferably in a virtual or remote environment.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, behavioral health principles, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based counseling techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students, families, and colleagues in a virtual setting.
  • Proficiency in using virtual communication and teleconferencing platforms for counseling and collaboration purposes.
  • Commitment to cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in serving students from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively in a remote work environment.
