We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Virtual Sign Language Interpreter to provide remote interpreting services for students in Virginia. This is a 1099 contract position that allows you to work from home and support students in a virtual educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for deaf or hard-of-hearing students during virtual lessons, discussions, and other school activities.
  • Ensure clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and peers.
  • Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to ensure students’ communication needs are met.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy throughout all interpreting sessions.
  • Keep documentation of interpreting sessions as required.

Qualifications:

  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher and a passing score on the EIPA written test, OR a VQAS (Virginia Quality Assurance Screening) Level 3 certification.
  • Strong fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Experience in educational settings is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage virtual interpreting sessions.
  • Comfortable using digital platforms for remote interpretation.
