Job Description

Sunbelt is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher for a contracted position near Midlothian, Illinois. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a crucial role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential. You will collaborate with parents, fellow teachers, and support staff to create individualized education plans and implement effective teaching strategies tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, in collaboration with parents, administrators, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Adapt and modify instructional materials and strategies to accommodate students' learning styles, abilities, and specific disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in various subjects, using evidence-based teaching techniques and assistive technology as necessary.
  • Monitor students' progress regularly, assess their strengths and areas for improvement, and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support the inclusion of students with special needs in the general education curriculum and provide necessary accommodations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting social-emotional development, self-advocacy, and independence.
  • Work closely with support staff, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists, to address students' individual needs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss strategies for support, and involve them in the educational process.
  • Participate in individual and team meetings, professional development opportunities, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in special education.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, behavior, and achievements, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • State teaching certification or licensure in Special Education.
  • Experience working as a Special Education Teacher or in a similar role preferred.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, policies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of various disabilities and effective strategies for individualized instruction.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on students' lives.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to effectively manage diverse student needs and responsibilities.
