2024-2025 School Year! Sign language Interpreter Position in Oregon
Location: Remote (Virtual, based in Oregon)
Job Type: Part-Time/Full-Time
Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced Virtual Sign Language Interpreter based in Oregon State to deliver accurate and clear interpretation services remotely. The ideal candidate will be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), have experience with virtual interpretation platforms, and be adept at managing diverse interpreting scenarios in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide remote sign language interpretation services via video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or similar tools.
- Interpret conversations, meetings, medical appointments, educational sessions, and other events accurately and impartially.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials and understanding the context and subject matter of the interpretation.
- Ensure confidentiality and adhere to the ethical standards and professional guidelines of sign language interpreting.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to accommodate various communication styles and settings.
- Communicate effectively with clients, including Deaf individuals and other professionals, to facilitate clear and respectful interaction.
- Stay updated on best practices in virtual interpretation and American Sign Language.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to virtual interpretation platforms as needed.
Qualifications:
- Certification from a recognized sign language interpreting organization (e.g., RID, NIC) preferred.
- Proven experience as a sign language interpreter, with a strong track record of remote or virtual interpreting assignments.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid understanding of Deaf culture.
- Familiarity with virtual interpretation tools and platforms.
