As a school speech language pathologist your job focuses on communication, the most essential aspect of a student’s everyday life inside and outside of school. You work with students who have a variety of conditions and choose the proper individualized treatment plan. An SLP changes the lives of students in a way they are able to carry with them throughout life.
We recognize the importance of having school speech therapy professionals who not only love what they do but strive to make the most out of their careers. For almost three decades, we have partnered with a wealth of schools across the country that believe in providing each child with the best possible resource – qualified school speech therapists just like you! Whether you are looking for a school job as a speech language pathologist (SLP), speech language pathology assistant (SLPA), or clinical fellow (CFY), we have opportunities stretching from coast to coast. Some responsibilities of school speech language pathologists include:
Becoming a school SLP requires obtaining your bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and a master’s degree in audiology or speech language pathology, accredited by the CAA. Additionally, following your education, you must complete 400 hours of supervised clinical experience, and then a CFY or clinical fellowship year. After those are completed, you must take and pass the Praxis exam to gain an ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology and a teaching certificate.
Speech Language Pathologist roles are projected to be on the rise over the next few years. As the awareness of speech and language disorders increases, SLPs can anticipate a greater demand for their services as well. Because SLPs play such a critical role in elevating speech, language, and social skills from a young age, we will likely continue to see these roles within school systems specifically.
